About Jim

I started teaching high school students how to prepare for the ACT 25+ years ago (while still in high school). I spent hundreds of hours tutoring classmates in a variety of subjects in both formal and informal settings.

During my senior year in college, I began working for the Sylvan Learning Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Accumulating over 2,000 hours of tutoring experience at Sylvan, I managed the math, study skills, speed reading, SAT, and ACT programs, and oversaw the training of dozens of instructors.

A few years after leaving Sylvan, I completed work on my own ACT program. Since then, I’ve been tutoring high school students in ACT preparation via ACT Crash Courses.

With well over 5,000 hours of tutoring experience and a program refined through decades of practice, my passion is to come alongside students and fill in strategy gaps in an encouraging and positive environment.

I am married to my college sweetheart, Julie, and we have two brilliant children. I am a member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon at Stuart Heights Baptist Church. If you have questions after reading my FAQ, you can email me.
